Truckers Revolution of 2017 - Letter
Why do truck drivers have bad attitudes?
Let me see, all of these decades of truck driving, truck drivers have made sacrifices on behalf of people that we don't know in order to provide them the best service possible with the understanding that others need the products that we deliver to be productively beneficial to their business, their workers and the community. Our country relies on commerce to be beneficial for taxable revenue. Without it, the government doesn't function. In fact, without truck drivers society ceases to exist as we know it. Without truck drivers people lose the conveniences of getting their groceries from the store, their medicine would not come from the pharmacy, hospitals would be out of business, roads would be left unmaintained and that wouldn't matter because fuel for cars would be nonexistent. In other words, without truck drivers, society would literally collapse. Anarchy of the worst type would ensue.
What do we truck drivers get in return for our efforts and the sacrifices that we make to do the nation's most important job? We get the finger from fellow motorist on the road. We get unrealistic regulations that make no sense at all from regulatory agencies that know nothing about the job that we do. We get ignored by the regulatory agencies when we try to share information with them as if we don't know what we are talking about. We get berated and mistreated by shippers and receivers. We get to deliver the freight and run off the property and out of town, left with nowhere to park because no one sees the value of making room for trucks to park. We get forced to shut off our trucks in the heat of summer and the cold of winter due to anti-idling laws. We get to do the nation's most dangerous job with the highest fatality rate and then we get to get blamed for all of the accidents on the road even though we are only responsible for 10 to 15% of the accidents that involve trucks. We get the highest divorce rate due to the fact that our spouse can't tolerate having an absentee spouse with no real source of income. Lastly, we get an electronic logging device to track our every move, no different than an ankle bracelet for criminals, because big business decided to become more wealthy at our expense. Nothing is more degrading than that.
The mandate for the electronic logging device goes into effect on December 18th of this year. Due to that fact, we truck drivers have decided that we are no longer going to be subjected to the abuses of the job, we are going to stop working. Our apologies to all of those that will be adversely affected by our decision. Please, understand that it is not an easy decision for us. All members of society deserve respect and dignity in the workplace and we truck drivers are no exception.
Sincerely,
John C. Grosvenor
